Which Thai Court? Check Papers, Jurisdiction & Coverage

Separate two questions: which court has jurisdiction, and whether the office can accept work in that location. Your home province or the nearest courthouse is not an automatic answer. If papers have already been issued, start with the court name, case number and dates in those papers—not a website’s list of locations.

Enquire about your matter

Already have papers? Check before travelling

Preserve all pages and attachments, the receipt date and the envelope if available. Check the court, case number, date, time and action required. If anything is unclear or an appointment is approaching, contact a lawyer or the issuing court through official channels promptly rather than relying only on an online enquiry. Contacting the office does not change a court deadline or mean someone will attend for you.

The issue determines what needs checking

Civil and commercial disputes

Check the legal ground, parties, relevant events, property location where applicable and case-specific rules. Some disputes involve specialist courts; the amount claimed or province alone is not enough.

Documents and cautions

Criminal matters and summonses

Distinguish papers from police, prosecutors and courts, together with your role and the current stage. A summons does not always mean an immediate court appearance: check who issued it, the location, appointment and required documents.

Documents and cautions

Family and juvenile matters

Specify divorce, children, maintenance or the particular issue, with relationship evidence and existing papers. Do not assume every family-related matter, such as inheritance, automatically belongs in the same court.

Documents and cautions

Employment and dismissal

Check the employment relationship, workplace, claim and received papers. A complaint to an agency and a labour court claim are different channels; the choice needs to match the rights and facts involved.

Confirm responsibility and scope before engagement

Confirm the court and location, appointment dates, responsible lawyer, scope and exclusions before agreeing. Separate legal fees, travel, interpretation, translation, court charges and relevant external expenses in writing. A court list is not proof of a branch in that province or representation in every court. Sending documents does not itself create an accepted engagement.

Preparing for an appointment or online service

Check the venue, building, date, time and instructions with the court handling the matter before travelling. Prepare identification, the summons, required papers and the responsible person’s contact details. Keep originals separate from copies. If you need an interpreter or cannot attend, ask about the required process in advance. Online services do not replace attendance in every case, and an adjournment request is not permission until the actual order is checked.

Check channels with the issuing authority

Use the Judiciary website for court information and check CIOS or mediation services under their own conditions. These links are not endorsements of the office or channels for sending us documents, and do not establish that your whole case can be handled online.

Court and coverage questions

I live in one province but received papers from another. What next?

Check the court, case number, your role, dates and required actions, then ask a lawyer to assess jurisdiction and procedure. Do not ignore the papers because the court is distant or assume the case must move to your home province.

Without court papers, how can I find the right court?

The legal ground, parties, relevant locations, facts and case-specific law need assessment. A court list or the lawyer’s office location does not determine jurisdiction. Prepare a chronology and supporting documents first.

Does the office represent clients in every Thai court?

Do not assume nationwide representation from a website. Coverage, the court, dates, responsibility and feasibility must be confirmed after assessment and before acceptance. Naming a province is not proof of an office or permanent local team.

Does using CIOS mean I do not need to attend court?

Not automatically. Check which services are available for your status and what the court’s order requires. Online services do not replace personal attendance in every case; confirm with the court before the appointment.

Should I wait if my appointment is soon and engagement is not confirmed?

Do not rely only on an enquiry message. Contact a lawyer or the court through official channels promptly to check the process. Sending papers is not acceptance, and an adjournment request is not permission: check the actual order.

What extra costs should I ask about for another province?

Ask about each stage, legal fees, travel, accommodation where needed, interpretation, translation, court charges and external expenses. Record inclusions and exclusions in writing, including arrangements if dates change, rather than relying on a flat price without assessment.

Provide the court and dates for a coverage check

Send necessary information through a channel confirmed by the office. Do not send passwords or verification codes, and retain original papers. Assessment is not a guarantee of acceptance or meeting every deadline.
