Prepare information without compromising safety or privacy
- State a safe contact channel and time. In immediate danger, contact local emergency services rather than waiting for a website response.
- Preserve a chronology, complete records and receipt dates for summonses or orders. Do not access the other party’s accounts without authority or alter evidence.
- Separate child, asset and debt files. Record actual expenses and current care; do not publish children’s images or private information.
- Identify the parties for a conflict check before detailed disclosures. Confirm a safe channel; do not send passwords or OTPs. An enquiry is not an accepted engagement or filed application.

- An agreement allocating debt does not immediately release a bank borrower; check loan terms and creditor consent
- Thai validity is not foreign acceptance. Check the recipient before choosing divorce and certification routes
- Time limits depend on the application or order. Negotiation or an enquiry does not automatically stop time
Frequently asked questions
What follows an agreement to divorce?
Check registration status and the competent registrar’s procedure. Clarify child, property and debt terms. Private signatures alone are not proof that the marriage has ended; foreign registrations or orders require separate review.
Can I sue immediately if the other spouse refuses?
Refusal alone does not establish that statutory grounds are made out. Assess grounds, evidence, jurisdiction and relevant time limits. In immediate danger, contact emergency services and assess protective measures rather than relying on negotiation.
Are parental power and maintenance the same?
They are distinct. Review legal parent status, existing orders, actual care and the child’s needs. Define contact and expenses clearly; gender, income or nationality alone does not guarantee a result.
Is child maintenance a fixed percentage?
Do not use one percentage for every family. Prepare actual housing, education and health costs plus relevant income and obligations. Specify amounts, payment cycles and exceptional costs in proposals; the result depends on the facts and procedure.
How do we deal with a jointly financed home?
Check acquisition dates, funding sources, titleholders, borrowers, balances and personal-property exceptions. Separate the spouses’ arrangement from the bank’s rights; allocating debt to one spouse does not automatically release the other borrower.
Will a Thai divorce automatically be accepted abroad?
No. Check registrar or court authority and the destination’s requirements. The Thai Embassy in Washington publishes a specific Green Card warning for different-registrar divorces, so verify acceptance before choosing a route. Notarisation or translation does not cure every status-recognition issue.
What should be checked about parenthood and a prenup?
Separate marriage from legal parenthood and parental power. Review birth, legitimation or adoption records and existing orders. A prenup needs review of timing, form and registration; a post-marriage paper is not automatically equivalent.
How can I enquire safely and understand costs?
Provide a safe channel, party names and key dates for a conflict check before detailed disclosure. Legal, translation and other costs are itemised in writing by scope. A message is not acceptance or filing; timing and outcomes are not guaranteed.
