Fees, process and timing for notarial certification in Thailand
Direct answers from the work this office actually handles, with links to the relevant service pages. If your document has specific conditions, send the pages for an attorney review first.
Fees and quotations
How are notarial attorney fees calculated in Thailand?
Fees depend on how many documents need certification, which certification is required (signature, true copy, certified translation, or affidavit), the document language, and where it will be used. Every fee is quoted before work starts, so there are no hidden charges. Send a photo of the document pages for an assessment.
Why is there no fixed price list on this site?
Because real cost drivers vary: whether translation is needed first, whether MFA and embassy legalisation follow, how many copies are involved, and the receiving authority's deadline. A single published figure would usually be wrong, so we quote against the actual document instead.
Are there government charges on top of legal fees?
Yes. If a document must pass the Department of Consular Affairs or an embassy, those authorities set their own charges, which can change. They are listed separately from the legal fee in your quotation.
The process step by step
What are the steps to get a document notarised?
First, send the document images and name the destination country or authority. Second, the attorney checks which certification applies and whether translation or onward legalisation is needed. Third, you attend the signing with valid identification. Fourth, the notarial services attorney certifies the signature or document. Fifth, if the destination requires it, the file goes to MFA and then the embassy.
What should I bring to the appointment?
The original or a copy that matches the original, valid identification for each signer, and, when signing for a company, the company affidavit plus evidence of signing authority. For a power of attorney, bring a draft that states the scope of authority clearly.
Can this be done from abroad or another province?
Document review and drafting can be handled online, but signature certification requires the signer to appear before the attorney, so we arrange the office, an agreed meeting point, or a route the destination authority accepts. Tell us the destination country first so the sequence can be planned.
Timing and planning
How long does it take?
The part we control — document review and attorney certification — is usually quick. Total time depends on the MFA and embassy queues and on whether translation comes first. We give a realistic window once we have seen the document, and we say so when a destination is running long.
My filing deadline is close. What should I do?
Tell us the filing date and the receiving authority at first contact so the work can be sequenced. If the deadline does not allow the full legalisation route, we set out the alternatives the destination accepts and state the risks plainly.
How many stages does a document need for use abroad?
It depends on the destination. Countries accepting Apostille normally need fewer stages, while countries still using two-tier legalisation need MFA certification followed by that country's embassy. Confirm with the receiving party before starting so nothing has to be redone.
Still not answered?
Send the document pages and name the destination country or authority. The attorney will confirm the correct certification route and all fees before work begins.
