The invention must be new, involve an inventive step not obvious to a skilled person, and be industrially applicable. Some subject matter, such as methods of diagnosing or treating humans and computer programs as such, is excluded.
Use non-disclosure agreements with investors and manufacturers; avoid publishing, exhibiting or selling before filing.
The description must enable a skilled person to perform the invention. Claims define the scope of protection and matter most. Prepare drawings and supporting data.
A first filing in a Paris Convention country can support a priority claim within 12 months, or a PCT application can enter the Thai national phase within the PCT deadline.
After formality examination the application is published. Substantive examination must be requested within five years of publication or the application is deemed abandoned.
